Within the framework of Descubre, the Descubre Supplier Development Program is presented. An initiative aimed to identify market opportunities for agricultural and agro-industrial products that will diversify the country's exportable supply, thus promoting innovation in the industry and in the chaining of production processes.

The Descubre Supplier Development Program launched its first edition in 2021 and its second edition in 2022, benefiting a total of 51 micro, small and medium-sized producers, and companies to date.

WHAT IS THE PROGRAM ABOUT?

For the 2022 edition, we have chosen two production chains -turmeric and papaya- to be represented during the program by leading companies, i.e., medium-sized, or large companies with export experience. These companies will receive PROCOMER's support in positioning their offer, closing gaps according to their needs and linking them with national suppliers.

In addition, up to 20 producers were selected to receive seed capital and technical assistance to improve their productivity and close gaps. At the end of the process, it is expected that they will achieve long-term chaining relationships to become suppliers of the "leading" firms.

HOW TO BECOME A SUPPLIER COMPANY?

Your company could be a beneficiary of the program and a potential supplier company if it meets the following requirements:

Be a micro-company, SME, micro, small, and medium agricultural producer, an associative business model, all of the above, in the agricultural or agro-industrial industry, exporters or with export potential, as defined in Article 6 of Law 8634 of the Ley Sistema Banca para el Desarrollo (Development Banking System Law).

Have the operating permits from the Ministerio de Salud (Ministry of Health) if applicable, or any other permits necessary for the operation or development of the project.

Be registered as an employer (in case of having employees) or as an independent worker (in case of not having employees) in the Caja Costarricense del Seguro Social, and be up-to-date with the corresponding payments.

To have a business identification (to be a company duly registered in the Registro Nacional) or to be a company under a national identification card.

Not having been a beneficiary of other Non-Reimbursable Funds programs implemented by Procomer or with Seed Capital funds from the Development Banking System.

Have the economic activity registered with the Ministerio de Hacienda (Ministry of Finance) and be up-to-date with the corresponding payments.

Have been diagnosed with the " PROCOMER's Unique Diagnosis". This will be applied during the evaluation period, as long as it complies with the other eligibility requirements stated in this section.

1What is Seed Capital?
These are non-reimbursable funds for the implementation of agricultural or agro-industrial development, transformation, scalability, or innovation projects.
2What is a leading company?
It is an agricultural or agro-industrial company with proven export experience that leads the production and export of the fresh or processed product selected under the Descubre Supplier Development Program. The leading companies selected for the second edition of the Descubre Supplier Development Program are GREEN LIFE, representing the papaya agribusiness chain, and COOPEASA RL, representing the turmeric agribusiness chain.
3What is a supplier company?
A supplier or supplier company is a micro-company, SME, micro, small and medium-sized agricultural producer, or an associative business model, in the agricultural or agro-industrial industry, exporters or with export potential, which, through productive chains, complements the production chain selected within the framework of the Descubre Supplier Development Program by meeting the specific needs of a supplier company.
4How can I know if I already have PROCOMER's Unique Diagnosis?
At the time of completing the personal information in the form, Procomer will perform an internal verification to know whether it has the diagnosis. For those cases in which Procomer's Unique Diagnosis is not yet available, and the application is submitted in full and meets all other requirements, Procomer will contact the applicant, using the contact information provided on the application form, during the project evaluation stage to apply the respective diagnosis.
